The Ordnance Survey Experience

On Friday 20 July, Ordnance Survey presented a number of aspects of its work to Cambridge Conference 2007 delegates, as follows:

  1. Jim Goldsmith made a presentation on Cartography;
  2. Mark Tabor provided an introduction into the production processes of Photogrammetric Services which is part of Ordnance Survey's Data Collection and Management business group
  3. Siva Koppula made a presentation to introduce some digital databases used at OS with particular emphasis on our publication database – Mercury2 - used in the storage and supply of MasterMap data. It also discussed the role of different databases in the production of OS MasterMap data  Large Databases and Database Storage;
  4. David Kaye made a presentation Printing and the Map Supply Chain, describing the supply chain for paper maps from the point were the map data is received from the cartographic section, detailing the processes required to make and finish the printed map through to the storage of the maps, the fulfilment of orders and finally their despatch to the customer.
  5. Fiona Bruce made a presentation on Ordnance Survey's Licensing Structure;
     
  6. Glen Hart gave a presentation Research at Ordnance Survey on the organisation's Research Group, explaining  why Ordnance Survey conducted research, the nature or the Research Group and then outlined the current research projects that are being conducted.
  7. Education Manager Roger Jeans highlighted Ordnance Survey's committment to Education including the Mapzone web site, teacher training and mapping resources for schools.
